Goo Goo Dolls 07.19.16

Goo Goo Dolls perform at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ on July 19, 2016.

IMG_3719-Edit-2Chances are, if you jumped into my car in the late 1990’s, you would have heard a song from the Goo Goo Doll’s hit album, Dizzy Up The Girl, blasting from the CD player. Although Dizzy Up the Girl was their sixth album released, it was the single Name that launched them into mainstream pop rock.

Getting to see them perform it live, nearly 20 years later, was absolutely surreal! Original band members John Rzeznik (vocals, guitar) and Robby Takac (vocals, bass) took the stage along with touring musicians Brad Fernquist, Korel Tunador and Craig Macintyre to belt out such hits as Slide, Better Days, and their 1998 Grammy-winning song of the year, Iris.  The crowd swayed back and forth and sang along with Rzeznik as he joked with the audience, a smile on his face the entire time.

Seven songs into the set list, the band played their 2001 hit, Black Balloon as about 20 black balloons brought by concert-goer Rosanne Benavides were batted around by the crowd throughout the rest of the song. Everyone was on their feet as they wrapped up their hit-filled set with an incredible encore performance of Long Way Home.

With a successful career that has already lasted over two decades, Goo Goo Dolls spent 2015 in the studio writing and recording their eleventh album, Boxes, which was released May 6th, 2016. For an unforgettable night, filled with nostalgic hits from the past along with exciting new music, check them out on tour this summer, along with Collective Soul and Tribe Society.
