Nine-time GRAMMY® Award-winner, Golden Globe® Award nominee and multiplatinum R&B legend Mary J. Blige has announced dates for her upcoming North American STRENGTH OF A WOMAN TOUR. Featuring special guest Lalah Hathaway, the tour kicks off Sunday, July 30 at the Chicago Theater and stops in Phoenix at Comerica Theatre on August 30.
The tour announcement comes on the heels of Blige’s 13th studio album release, STRENGTH OF A WOMAN, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s R&B Album Chart and has received critical praise since its April 28th release on Capitol Records. Featuring production by DJ Camper, Bam, Hit-Boy, and KAYTRANADA, the new release also features collaborations with Quavo (of Migos), DJ Khaled, Missy Elliot and Kanye West.
The first single off the new album, Thick of It was released last November. The song marked the fastest climb of an R&B song to #1 on the Billboard R&B chart since Whitney Houston’s Waiting to Exhale in 1996. Bilge’s first Billboard R&B #1 song Not Gon’ Cry, which was also off the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack. The 20 year, 8 month span between Bilge’s first #1 on the R&B chart and the Thick Of It gives Blige the longest span of #1s in the chart’s 23-year history
