If you were asked what are some of the great Rock and Roll bands from Australia, almost everyone will mention AC/DC first.  But in 1975 a band called Little River Band (LRB) formed in Melbourne and rose to international fame producing hit after hit for the next decade.  They create multiple platinum albums and produced the hits songs, “Reminiscing”, “Cool Change”, “Lonesome Loser”, “The Night Owls” and “Happy Anniversary”.  Over the years over 30 members have come and gone, but since the early 80s, their bass player and lead singer, Wayne Nelson has been a mainstay.

Little RIver Band

The current flavor of Little River Band consists of Wayne Nelson as lead singer and bass player, Chris Marion on keyboards and vocals, Rich Herring on lead guitar and vocals, Ryan Ricks on drums and vocals and Colin Whinnery on guitar and lead vocals.

They started the evening with “It’s A Long Way There” from the band’s debut self-titled album, Little River Band.  By the time they got to the 3rd song. “Happy Anniversary” they had the crowd standing and singing along.  In 2013, LRB came out with their newest album, Cuts Like a Diamond and for tonight’s show they played 2 cuts from that album, “Lost and Lonely” and “I’m An Island”.  They ended the set with 3 of their biggest hits, “Night Owls”, “Cool Changes” and Lady”.  They ended the show with an encore performance of their mega hit “Lonesome Loser” from their multi-platinum album First Under the Wire.

This was my first time to see LRB and I was very impressed.  They put on a sensational show.  They had people dancing in the aisles for a couple of the songs.  I even saw one lady come to the back of the venue where I was standing and she started dance in front of me.  People were just having a good time, singing along with the band.  If you get a chance to see LRB, it is definitely worth it.

I was talking with some of the Talking Stick Resort people the next night and they said that the members of the band were some of the nicest people to work with.  A lot of bands charge for a VIP package just so you might get a photo with someone in the band and some signed stuff.  But after the show LRB members went out to the merchandise booth and signed purchased items for free.
