For the last 17 years, Alice Cooper and his wife Sheryl have been putting on a concert/auction to help raise money for their Solid Rock operation. At the beginning, the Cooper’s saw the need to help promote the arts because a lot of the schools were dropping those programs. They also saw it as a way to involve kids that otherwise might get lost in the system because they had little or no way of expressing their artistic talents. It only became natural to setup a program that allowed kids to learn and express themselves in music (Alice’s background) and dance (Sheryl’s background).
So to help raise money to run the operation, they decided to put on a concert with their friends and also auction off items. From their humble beginnings to today, they have developed this event into a massive party with thousands of people attending. They have such great artists performing as Gretchen Wilson, John Depp, Members of Blue Oyster Cult, Rob Halford and of course Alice. Along with the concert performances, they run an auction of different items including signed photos or pictures of the different artists, diner with different celebrities and even signed guitars.
Last year was my first year to attend, and it was spectacular. Between the artists that performed and the different items auctioned off, I was happy to see that Alice and Sheryl were able to raise some good money to help these amazing kids. Besides the major artists, they have the “Solid Rock Dancers” perform and Alice Cooper’s Proof is in the Pudding the winners of the individual performer and group performance.
Overall it is just a fun time. If you are lucky enough to go, don’t forget to bring your wallet. You might be able to get an item for your own personal collection. It is also great to just rub shoulders with some of the elite in the music and entertainment industry of Arizona. So please buy a ticket and help this fine organization and the kids they help.
