For the first time in five years, former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth will embark on a 32-date tour of the U.S. and Canada that commences this Tues. April 2 at The Venue at the Canyon House in Mesa.

Damn, that’s a mouthful for the name of a concert venue! But I digress.

The ideal thing about this show is that it will be An Evening With…”, which as many of you know means… no opening act. It also means that fans wil be treated to a nearly 3-hour show, with a 15–20-minute intermission.

That alone is worth the price of admission, especially at a time when shows by veteran artists (with a sizable catalog, mind you) generally clock in at a meager 75-minutes! Which, in this writer’s opinion, is absolutely unacceptable from every conceivable angle.

Okay, rant over. Moving on.

According to Roth in a recent phone chat, the show will consist of two sets that will span his entire recording career— over five decades to be precise.

“Yes, this tour will be what I like to call a “multi-media” experience. We incorporate video alongside the music, so it’s really a challenge to pull off, specifically the first set of the evening.

“I’ll be playing some songs that were specifically written for this tour—new material that I’m looking forward to playing when we get to Arizona”, Roth said happily.

Roth added. “The first half of the show will be somewhat unique because it includes a Ted Talk, which introduces my upcoming new book called In Search Of The Alpha Law.”

Of course, there will be a plethora of songs for fans of his work with Scorpions and Electric Sun, respectively.

“Yes, that part (of my career) will be featured in the second set. I’m playing with a full band that I’ve had for a while, and I hope to add some Jimi Hendrix songs as well. To be perfectly honest, the second half of the show I can play in my sleep”, he said with a laugh.
