Having grown up in Ohio, we had our share of celebrities.  In Cincinnati, there was Dr. Johnny Fever (Fictional character on WKRP in Cincinnati), Johnny Bench, Ickey Woods with his famous “Ickey Shuffle” and lately Fiona, the Hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo.  We can now add Kurt Deimer to that list.  Kurt is an actor, movie creator, director and musician.  Notably, he spearheaded the creation of the movie franchise, Hellbilly Hollow, by both starring in and directing a feature-length horror film of the same name.

However, we are here to talk about his musicianship.  I first saw Kurt and his band when he toured with Geoff Tate back in 2021.  I was impressed by his no nonsense straight up hardcore rock and roll style that reminded me of the classic bands in the early 80s.  Fast forward to June 11th of this year.  Kurt and his band were touring in support of Tesla.

Kurt comes off as a down to earth person that is concerned with making sure that his audience is entertained.  He is also respectful of our veterans and actually created and dedicated a couple of songs to them.  Kurt even showed up after the show at his side of the merchandise table to meet his fans and sign items for them even if you did not buy anything.  I love it when performers show up, met the fans, and interact with them.

Kurt performed a number of songs include their version of Pink Floyd’s classic “Have a Cigar”.  They also performed his new song, “Doom” along with “Naïve” and “Fight”.  At one point in the set, Kurt came down into the crowd and met some of the fans.

After the show, I got to talk to Kurt very shortly and he indicated that he was working on coming back to the Phoenix area later this year.  Personally, I can wait to see him again.  If you love heart beating classic rock music then I can heartily recommend seeing Kurt Deimer and his band.  You can also check out Kurt in his upcoming horror film, “Scared to Death”.
