The Tedeschi Trucks Band (/təˈdɛski/) is an American blues and blues rock group based in Jacksonville, Florida. Formed in 2010, the band is led by married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. Their debut album, Revelator (2011), won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. The band has released five studio and three live albums. (1)
I first saw Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2016. Since then I have been a huge fan. They remind me a lot of the Allman Brothers Band back in the 70s in their style of music. I honestly believe that if the Allman Brothers Band were still together today, this is what they would sound like. The Tedeschi Trucks are lead by Derek and Susan trading off lead guitarist roles. Susan does most of the lead singing with one or two songs being performed by their backup singers.

The band consists of Derek Trucks on guitar, Susan Tedeschi on guitar and lead vocals. They were joined by keyboardist Gabe Dixon, bassist Brandon Boone, two drummers Isaac Eady and Tyler Greenwell. On one side of the drummers was the horn section, Kebbi Williams on sax, Ephraim Owens on trumpet and Elizabeth Lea on trombone. The other side of the drummers were the backup singers, Mike Mattison, Mark Rivers and Alecia Chakour.
I was surprised when I saw Derek not using any picks while playing the guitar. This reminded me of how Lindsey Buckingham played. Derek was awe-inspiring during his guitar solos. Susan’s voice was spectacular and when she did her guitar solos, she was exceptional. During the set, Mike Mattison came out front, played acoustic guitar, and sang “Emmaline”. With the addition of the horn section and the backup vocalists, the band’s sound was spectacular.
If you look on setlist.com, you will notice that they change up the song set almost every show. This shows how versatile the band is. Most bands play the same set every show, but it is very strange to see a band that changes it up. I saw them in 2016 for two consecutive nights and they had a different set each night with only a few songs both nights. At the end of the review I provided tonight’s setlist.
For people I know around the Toledo, Ohio area, they will be performing at Toledo Zoo Amphitheater on August 7th at 6:30PM.
If you love the blues, then I can highly recommend the Tedeschi Trucks Band. I know you will also fall in love with this outstanding band and want to see them again and again. I will see when they come back to the Phoenix area.

Joe Purdy

First up was Joe Purdy is accompanying The Tedeschi Trucks Band on this tour. He is an American singer/songwriter whose style is folk/country. Tonight he was doing a solo performance. He reminded me of many of the bands I covered during the Innings Festival.
