The Head and The Heart at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ

The Head and the Heart, an American Indie folk band from Seattle, brought their headlining tour Signs of Light to a crowd of eager fans at the Marquee Theater on Wednesday, April 12th. The band was formed in 2009 by Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell, and also includes Charity Rose Thielen, Chris Zasche, Kenny Hensley, and Tyler Williams. Johnson announced that he would be on hiatus in 2016 and has been replaced on the tour by Theilen’s husband, Matt Gervais.

The stage was blanketed with small trees and house plants, giving you the feeling that they were playing an intimate set in their living room to an audience of one. They opened their set with one of their most popular and crowd-pleasing hits, All We Ever Knew, from their third album, Signs of Light. They went on to play an array of hits such as Ghosts, Rhythm and Brews and Lost in my Mind. The crowd especially loved when songs highlighted Charity’s beautiful vocals, such as during the duet Let’s Be Still, while a mirror ball lit up the sea of swaying fans. Living up to encore expectations, the band brought the house down while jamming to their final song of the night Rivers and Roads.

The band has amazing chemistry with one another and you genuinely get the feeling that they are having just as much fun as you are. Their Phoenix tour stop proceeded two weekends at Coachella.  The Head and the Heart then continues on with their Signs of Light tour through September.
