GWAR

This was my 5th time seeing GWAR and I even had the cloths from the last show I saw in 2019 on. For GWAR virgins this might seem strange, but for any true GWAR fans they totally understand. For those that have never seen GWAR live or this was their first time, you will come away wearing the show. A GWAR concert is known as one of the grossest shows around. Not only are each of the band members dressed in strange and somewhat gross outfits, but they have skits throughout the show that simulate crack smoking, beheadings, disembowelment and other extreme oddities.

Tonight’s show was a little different from other shows. In the past they had TV screens displaying either TV adds or messages from their manager, SLEAZY P. MARTINI, but not tonight. The other major difference was that the lead howler, THE BERSERKER BLÓTHAR was not there. So instead, guitarist PUSTULUS MAXIMUS took over the lead singing duties. PUSTULUS was joined by fellow Scumdogs of the Universe members, guitarist BÄLSÄC THE JAWS ‘O DEATH, bassist BEEFCAKE THE MIGHTY and drummer JIZMAK DA GUSHA. Also, their body guard, BONESNAPPER took on a bigger role interacting with and battling the evil characters.

There are 3 main reasons to see a GWAR show. The first is the irreverent music. With songs like “Meat Sandwich”, Mother Fucking Liar” and “Fuck this Place” this is not your mother’s music. The second reason to see a GWAR show is the stage show. With all of the strange costumes and characters, it is a spectacular event. The third and last reason, is the blood bath. If you are in the first 15 (Equivalent) rows, you will be bathed in the blood of GWAR by the end of the show.

I will not go into what all happens at the show (look at photos for an idea), because you really need to experience it yourself. I can just tell you that I came away with a new coating on my cloths (and hair). Luckily, I covered my camera equipment in plastic, so it was ok. At this point some of you might be wondering why bother. Well, you are truly missing one of the greatest experiences a sick individual can have in one’s life and not get arrested afterwards. Will I go again, DAMN RIGHT I WILL. Hopefully THE BERSERKER BLÓTHAR will get better and be howling at the show you see.
Check out the GWAR Mythos on their website and become a follower of the Scumdogs of the Universe. The website also has merchandise that we puny humans can purchase. Their newest album The Duoverse of Absurdity is being released on June 3rd. Future tour dates are also listed for those brave enough to enter the world of GWAR. If you do, you will never be the same.

Nekrogoblikon

Nekrogoblikon is an American melodic death metal band based in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 2006, by Tim Lyakhovetskiy and Nicky Calonne. The current band members are lead singer Nicky “Scorpion” Calonne, lead guitarist Alex “Goldberg” Alereza, keyboardist Aaron “Raptor” Minich, bassist Aaron “Zoot” VanZutphen, drummer Eric W. Brown and rhythm guitarist Joe “Diamond” Nelson.
Have released 6 studio albums with The Fundamental Slimes and Humours just being released on April 1, 2022. Half of the songs performed were from this new album.
Nekrogoblikon music was more my style. I was more amused by the antics of the Goblin “John Goblikon” that was running around on the stage.
Check out Nekrogoblikon on either their website or Facebook page. They might be coming to a town near you. So go check them out.

The Native Howl

The Native Howl is a band from Leonard, Michigan Their music is a blend of bluegrass and thrash metal, using guitar, banjo, electric bass and drums. The band was well received by the crowd and by the end of their set the crowd was really into it and yelling and dance to the music.
This was not necessarily my style of music, but I did like it. If you like funky bluegrass music, then you should really check out this band.
The Native Howl consists of Alex Holycross, Zach Bolling, Mark Chandler and Jacob Sawicki.
