Tour: Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening

Jason Bohman is playing a tribute to his father the icon drummer of Led Zeppelin, John Bonham. For this tour, Jason and his band are performing the Physical Graffiti album in its entirety. This is the 50th Anniversary of the release of the album, Physical Graffiti. The album was originally released in February of 1975 as a double disk album and the sixth studio album by Led Zeppelin.

Like his father, Jason Bonham is the drummer of the band. To his credit, he has performed with the other members of Led Zeppelin. For this tour he is joined by James Dylan (vocals, acoustic guitar), Dorian Heartsong (bass, mandolin), Alex Howland (keyboards, guitar), and Akio “Jimmy” Sakurai (lead guitar).
Jason changed up the order of the songs from Physical Graffiti, but every song on the double album was performed. They started with “Custard Pie: and then moved into “The Rover”.
Jason told us that he was brought up in what is called the Black Country in England because that is where the coal mines were. He told us that “Black Country Woman” was a song about the wonderful but no-nonsense women of that area.
John Bohman was known as the man behind the kit. But on a couple of songs, he was also given song credit. Jason told us that John would either sing a local ditty or hum a song and Jimmy Page would then take the melody and convert it into a song.
At one point in the show, Jason came out front and took a video of the audience. He did this to send to his granddaughter to show why he is gone so much. He does this at every show.

The second to last song of the main set was “Trampled Under Foot”. Almost everyone in the audience was standing and there was one lady in the front row that was dancing to the song.
They ended the main set with the iconic song, “Kashmir”. It was an ending that showed the dominance of Led Zeppelin in the late 60s and 70s.
As an encore, Jason has a massive catalog to pick from. They picked 4 of the greatest songs Led Zeppelin created, starting with “Good Times Bad Times”, then “Whole Lotta Love”, followed by “Rock and Roll”. They ended the night with probably the best know song by Lad Zeppelin, “Stairway to Heaven”.
It was a solid 2-hour set. Sure, we all wanted more. There are so many amazing songs in the Led Zeppelin catalog. But tonight was a tribute to the Physical Graffiti album. And Jason and the band performed it outstandingly. I truly believe his dad would have approved.
I was fortunate enough to get to see Led Zeppelin perform twice. The first was in LA in 1974. The second was here in Phoenix in 1978. Both shows were fantastic. I have now seen Jason Bonham perform Led Zeppelin’s music 3 times. I have been impressed each time I have seen him. Unfortunately, we will never be able to see the original band perform, but if you want to see the very best band performing Led Zeppelin’s music then you really got to see Jason Bonham and his band. It is the next best thing. I highly recommend this concert to any Led Zeppelin fans.
