Throughout the history of Rock & Roll there have been certain singers that have had very distinct voices: Getty Lee of Rush, Bruce Stringsteen, Bob Dylan and Jon Anderson of YES. For years Jon Anderson was the voice of YES on many classic albums and songs. As soon as you hear his voice, you know actually who it is.
Jon Anderson has created a new band call The Band Geeks that include bass player Richie Castellano, drummer Andy Ascolese, guitarist Andy Graziano and keyboardists Phil Castellano and Chris Clark.
This was the second time I saw Jon with this band (I have seen him a few times with YES and ARW).
Tonight, show was made up of 2 sets each about 1 hour long. From the setlist below you can see that the majority of the songs were from his YES years with a few songs with The Band Geeks. Each set consisted of 6 songs. That might not seem like much, but when the first song of the night, “Close To The Edge” is 15 minutes long, you don’t need to perform that many to fill up an hour.
The first set had the classic YES songs, “Close To The Edge”, “Perpetual Changes”, “You And I” and “Soon”. Jon made sure to include songs that this band has created including “Counties and Countries” and “Giving Is Living”.
After a short break, they came back out and started the second set with “Awaken”. However, the next song is when the audience really got into it. “I’ve Seen All Good People” is one of YES’s best hits. The show ended with “Starship Troopers” and everyone favorite “Roundabout”.
Throughout the concert, they received multiple standing ovations. When they performed “Roundabout”, everyone was standing and singing along.
The US tour is over, but Jon and the band will be touring England and Europe starting in September. If you get a chance to see Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks I can highly recommend it. If you love YES songs, then this is a show to see. Jon’s voice is still magical and the Band Geeks perform the YES songs perfectly.
