This show features Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake on bass & vocals and Carl Palmer on drums. Both Greg and Keith will be displayed on screens on either side of Carl. Carl will also have his current band mates, guitarist Paul Bielatowicz, and bassist/Chapman Stick player Simon Fitzpatrick perform with them. This stage production is a one of a kind setup that is designed to recreate the original ELP‘s “Welcome Back My Friend” tour.
During the 70s, the power trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) were one of the biggest bands of that decade selling out stadiums and large concert venues. They were even the co-headlining band at California Jam in 1974 along with Deep Purple. In 1974 I was lucky enough to see their preference of “Welcome Back My Friend, To the Show That Never Ends” in Tucson, Arizona. It was a mind-blowing show and one of my favorite concerts. In the 70s I saw ELP each time they came through the Phoenix area and even had front row dead center seats at their “Works” concert in 1978. In recent years with the passing of Kieth Emerson and Greg Lake, Carl has formed a new band and tours with 2 outstanding musicians, Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick.
Personally, I can’t wait to see this show. I have been a fan of ELP for over 55 years and still listen to all of their albums. They were one of those bands that was much better live then on a studio album. So, if you get a chance to see this show either here in Arizona or in a city near you, I can highly recommend it.
The ELP concert will be performing here in Arizona on April 10th at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona and then on the 12th in Tucson at the Fox Tucson Theatre. I will be at the Tucson show and I hope to see you all there. It will be a fantastic night of music and an emotional tribute to 2 of Progressive Rock’s greatest musicians.
