Its a tough assignment – rock a downtown side street on a Sunday night when its still 100° out – and the Glass Animals pulled it off with ease. Moved from the indoor showroom to the street outside, the Crescent
Ballroom packed a sold-out 2nd Avenue for Glass Animals second headline appearance in Phoenix with adoring Glass Animal fans who hung onto every note and lyric as if each one were a precious commodity.
Touring in support of its debut album Zaba, this was the Glass Animals second visit to the Phoenix area in 2015 and third visit in less than a year. Glass Animals first visit to the Phoenix area was on April 10, 2015 as part of Alt AZ 93.3’s FestivAltAZ at Quail Run Park in Mesa (Photos Here), filing an early evening timeslot following Family of the Year and immediately prior to Panic! at the Disco. Glass Animals prior visit to Phoenix was in early December 2014, also at the Crescent Ballroom.
Glass Animals had the stage essentially to itself Sunday night with just a single, solo act ahead of them on the bill. The crowd of mostly late high school and college age fans collectively swayed back and forth to the Glass Animals own, unique brand of smooth, silky, psychedelic-tinged electronic rock throughout the show, often singing along. Dave Bayley (vocals and guitar), Drew MacFarlane (guitar and keyboards), Edmund Irwin-Singer (bass and keyboards) and Joe Seaward (drums) powered through the late summer heat (100° when they took the stage) to deliver a set that was everything their fans were hoping for and then some (set list below photos).
The set list included:
- Walla Walla
- Intruxx
- Hazey
- Psylla
- Exxus
- Gooey
- Flip
- Black Mambo
- Gold Lime
- Cocoa Hooves
- Toes
- Wyrd
encore:
- Love Lockdown (Kanye West cover)
- Pools
