At the Wolfmother concert on Friday night, the opening band was a young group from Scottsdale, Arizona called Good Boy Daisy.  Normally the first band is just a local band that is ok.  But tonight, I was bowled over by how good they were.  Good Boy Daisy was formed in 2015 by identical twins Hallie and Dylinn Mayes.  Hallie is the lead singer and Dylinn is one of the guitarists for the band.  They are joined by close friend and dynamic guitarist Molly Mashal.  This band reminded me a lot of the early days of Heart.  Hallie has that incredible voice just like Ann Wilson and Molly plays similar to Nancy Wilson and has that onstage charisma.  Dylinn seems to play the straight guitarist but from time to time shows her playful side.  They are joined by Seth Person on bass who plays and bounces around on stage like Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Drummer Logan Dolezal is the grounding force of the group providing the rhythm and beat for the music.

It was nice to see this band playing their own material.  They play a straightforward form of old-time rock and roll with a little bit of grunge intermixed.  Like I stated before, they reminded me of Heart with a little bit of Red Hot Chili Peppers interlaced.

They started the set with 2 of their currently release songs, “All I Need” and “It’s About Time” from their debut EP, It’s About Time.  The great thing about their set was how they mixed the instruments and Hallie’s mic.  It was perfect.  I could hear Hallie and even Molly and Dylinn’s backing vocals.  Also, the instruments were perfectly balanced.  They ended their set with the Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name”.

Their current It’s About Time EP is available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and Amazon Music.  They are also working on a new album that hopefully will be released later this year.  Hopefully this young band will be able to stay together and continue to write great music.  They already have an impressive stage presence.  If you get a chance to see Good Boy Daisy it is well worth it.
