It goes without saying that all eyes worldwide will be on the state of Arizona this week. After a year of intense preparation by business leaders, city officials and the like, it’s finally here: the long-awaited Super Bowl LVII, and all the events that surround the “big game” between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, there’s one evening in particular prior to the game that is sure to get people talking. Now in its 24th year, Mesa will have the honor of hosting the Super Bowl Soulful Celebration: An Evening of Inspiration and Culture this Wed. Feb. 8 at Mesa Arts Center.

According to event organizers, this evening of music (and more) is the “only multicultural program and community event sanctioned by the NFL” during the high-profile week.

In addition to music, there will also be comedy, and of course, various NFL players on-site as well.

Speaking of the latter– with a theme of “unstoppable”– the 2023 edition of SBSC will feature the Players Choir that consists of 40 former and current players.

Here’s a fun fact: now in its 15th year, the Players Choir officially commenced at the 2008 Super Bowl that was also hosted in…you guessed it…Arizona! Full circle indeed.

Also on the bill will be veteran contemporary Christian singer Israel Houghton and the legendary Patti LaBelle.

One of the things that SBSC prides itself on is recognizing NFL players’ commitment to their faith and philanthropy. To that end, the SBSC will present its highest honor— the 2023 Faith in Action award— to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Not a bad way to kick off Super Bowl weekend I’d say. Be safe and have a great time Arizona— and our out-of-town visitors as well!
