Extra Innings Festival Photos Day 1

For the first time, The Innings Festival added a second weekend to the music and baseball festival in Tempe, Arizona.  They called it “The Extra Innings”.  This is also the first time that they supported a mostly Country Music Day with Chris Stapleton as the headliner.  The only exception was the Blue’s player, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram.  Just like the prior weekend, the weather was beautiful, sunny and in the 70s and low 80s.  Today show was on a Friday, so the crowds at the beginning of the day were smaller (probably due to people working) but grew as the day went on and by 6PM a large number of people were finally at the event.

I am not a huge fan of Country Music, but I did enjoy Kaitlin Butts and Charley Crockett.  But my favorite was Kingfish.  I loved his blues guitar work and he reminded me of when I saw Muddy Water back in the 70s.

Again, the order of artists are based on when they performed.

The Takes

The Takes are an Alternative/Indie band from Portland, Oregon.  They are a 4-piece band consisting of Summer Rahr on guitar, Fritz Frerichs on drums, Guido Rahr on guitar and Phoebe Webb on bass.

Goodnight, Texas

Goodnight, Texas is an American folk rock band named after the town of Goodnight, Texas, the geographic midpoint between the working locations of songwriters Avi Vinocur in San Francisco and Patrick Dyer Wolf in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Kaitlin Butts

Kaitlin Butts is a country singer from Tulsa, Oklahoma with a throwback sound and a rebellious spirit.

Donavon Frankenreiter

Donavon Frankenreiter is an American musician that has strong folk and country sounds.  He was joined on stage by the Goodnight, Texas folks.

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is an American blues guitarist and singer from Clarksdale, Mississippi, United States.  Like I said before, his style remined me a lot of the great blues guitar players including Muddy Water and B.B. King.  If you love Blues music, then Kingfish is definitely someone to see.

Shane Smith & The Saints

Shane Smith and The Saints is an American red dirt country band from Austin, Texas that formed in 2011. (1)  Today he was performing as a solo artist.

Elle King

Tanner Elle Schneider, known professionally by her stage name Elle King, is an American singer, musician, songwriter, and actress. Her musical style is influenced by country, rock, and blues. (1)  Overall, I was not really impressed by her because she either hugged the mic or did some strange little dance moves while on stage.

Charley Crockett

Matthew Charles Crockett is an American blues, country, and Americana singer, guitarist, and songwriter. (1)  I was impressed with Charley’s performance as he played to the audience and didn’t just stand behind the mic.  Also I did enjoy his music.

Ryan Bingham

George Ryan Bingham is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose music spans multiple genres. (1)

Turnpike Troubadours

The Turnpike Troubadours are an American country music band from Tahlequah, Oklahoma founded in 2005. (1)

Chris Stapleton

If you are to close out a great day of country music, the Chris Stapleton is a great choice.  Christopher Alvin Stapleton is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew up in Staffordsville, Kentucky. (1)
