Tour: Wish You Were There
I was lucky enough to see both the Dark Side Of The Moon tour in 1974 and The Wall concert in LA in 1980. These were 2 of the best concerts I ever saw. Most people only know Pink Floyd as the 4-piece group, Roger Water, David Gilmour, Nick Mason & Richard Wright. Only die-hard fans know that Syd Barrett was in the original group and was part of the first 2 albums. Syd left the group and David Gilmour joined the band. Richard Wright left the band in 1981 and Roger Waters left the band in 1985. David and Nick continued and created 2 more albums, A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell.
The thing about seeing Pink Floyd live was that they had additional guitarists helping since David and Roger did multiple parts on the original albums. So, it not surprising that all Pink Floyd tribute bands are made up of a large number of musicians.
There are 3 amazing Pink Floyd tribute bands currently touring, Australian Pink Floyd, Brit Floyd and the new comer, Floyd Nation. I had seen both Australian Pink Floyd and Brit Floyd before and they are very good and have incorporated an amazing light show. This was the first time to see Floyd Nation. They did not have a massive light show, but instead relied on their performance. And boy did they provide a great show.

With an overwhelming wealth of material to choose from, it is always hard for any tribute band to come up with a setlist. The majority of the show was songs from The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall & Wish You Were Here. I was happy to hear “Echoes” as the opening song of the night. Probably the highlight of the show was when the Phoenix Boys Choir came out and sang “Another Brick In The Wall Pt 2”. The show consisted of 2 set with a short intermission. Overall it was an awesome show that lasted over 2.5 hours.

Floyd Nation consists of Will Kaiser (acoustic & electric guitar and vocals), Brendon McDonnell (lead guitar, vocals, steel guitar), Ray Nesbit (guitar, vocals), Robert Harris (keyboards, synthesizer, hammond b3, vocals), Jason Collins (bass), Justin Pupillo (drums & percussion), John Conrath (saxophone, percussion, steel guitar), Shannon Robinson (vocals) and Toneisha Harris (vocals).
Prior to the show, members of the band were wondering around in the audience and talking to people. This was really nice seeing them engaging with fans and talking about the music and the band. I heard Robert Harris talk about how they went to Abby Road Studios in London and recorded their first album. It will be released sometime this summer.
So, if you never saw Pink Floyd live or want to see a group of amazing musicians perform Pink Floyd’s music, then I can highly recommend seeing Floyd Nation. They might not have the best light show, but they make up for it by performing the songs spectacularly.
You can check out more about Floyd Nation and where they will be performing next on their social media sites. Hopefully I will see you the next time they come back to Arizona.
