Styx is a rock band that was formed in 1970 in Chicago. They released a number of Multi-Platinum albums in the late 70’s and early 80’s and became one of the great American Rock bands. The band broke up, but 2 of its main members, Tommy Shaw (guitar) and James “J.Y.” Young (guitar) are leading this new version of the band. They are joined by Todd Sucherman (drums), Lawrence Gowan (keyboards), Ricky Phillips (bass and guitar) and another of the original band members, Chuck Panozzo (bass).
Styx performed at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, AZ on January 17, 2016. The show was really a greatest hits concert. They played all of their hits from the “Grand Illusion”, “Pieces of Eight” and “Paradise Theatre” albums. They also did a tribute to David Bowie who had just recently died. The audience loved the songs and you could see that the band enjoyed playing them and interacting with the audience.
I have seen a number of shows at both the Talking Stick Resort Showroom and now Ballroom and I have to say that both are great places to see a concert. You get the feeling of being right there with the band and the band seems to like interacting so closely with the crowd. The sound at both places is great. If you want to see a concert I can recommend either of these places as a great venue. (set list below photos)
