It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Arizona for live music at Tempe Beach Park. My first order of business at Innings Fest was a brief chat with San Diego-based trio (and Disney/Hollywood recording artists) Almost Monday.
The band consists of guitarist Cole Clisby, vocalist Dawson Daugherty, and bassist Luke Fabry.
Perhaps the most impressive thing to me about Almost Monday is that all three of them started the band as friends, as opposed to finding each other through want ads. If we’re being honest, that simply doesn’t happen very much in the music business.
“Yeah, I guess that is unique, and something that I’ve never given much thought to, so thank you for that”, said Daugherty with a laugh. “Luke and I grew up together, and Cole I met through surfing together.”
One thing is certain: it’s the songs that matter over any kind of technical proficiency with Almost Monday— to its credit!
While songs like Cool Enough, Til The End Of Time, and Live Forever are definitely “radio friendly”, it doesn’t seem like it’s the band’s primary motivation. That’s probably why their fan base is growing slowly but surely.
I’m confident that we’ll be hearing a lot more from Almost Monday. Check ’em out when they hit your town.
