Local Death Metal Bands descend on Last Exit Live With Borne Of Ash debuting there new Album – From The Dark They Come

This was the first time I was at the Last Exit Live venue in downtown Phoenix.  It is currently a pain to get to due to the Light Rail expansion work being done in south Phoenix (below Central and Jefferson).  You must come from the south off of I17 on Central to be able to park at the venue.  Also, parking is limited.  Otherwise, it is a typical bar concert venue.  It does have decent lighting and sound system and the venue crew did adjust the stage lights for each band to get the proper lighting on the band members (I really appreciated this).

I also love that 13^th Floor Entertainment works with a lot of the local bands to help promote them.  They have concerts like this that only showcases local bands and they attempt to feature a local band on most of their concerts with touring bands.  The other thing is that the cost for a ticket is reasonable for these shows.  You can typically attend 3 or more 13^th Floor Entertainment concerts for the cost of 1 of the larger concerts.

Tonight showcased 3 new bands that I have never seen and the main act, Borne Of Ash that I saw once before.  This was a metal show that showcased Death Metal style bands.

The first up was a new band that was making its live debut, Aphelion Age, a Melodic Death/Power Metal band from Prescott, Arizona.  They are fronted by ex-Adavant front lady Charlotte Doherty and her husband Dylan Doherty.  They are joined by ex-Adavant drummer Javad.  I was a longtime friend of Adavant and disappointed when they disbanded.  But from the ashes, a new band has emerged, Aphelion Age.  I was impressed by them and I can’t wait to hear their new album that Dylan indicated should be out this year.

Next up was Seboullia, a technical Death Metal/Deathcore band from Phoenix, Arizona.  They came out dressed like Ghostbusters including the Proton backpack.  They get their name from the mythical unknown race The Sebouillia that Gozer was their lord from the Ghostbuster movie.

Next was Daytripper, a Desert Stoner Doom band from Phoenix, Arizona.  They came out dressed as Druids in black hooded robes.  Their stick was the lead singer and guitarist would read out a mythical ancient text in a booming growling voice.  Their music reminded me of the first album by Black Sabbath.  In my opinion, they dragged the songs out a little longer than necessary.  They also have a new album, BOOK I: THE TRIP that can be located at bandcamp (https://daytripperdoom.bandcamp.com/album/book-i-the-trip ).

Finally, it was time for the headliner, Borne Of Ash.  They are a melodic death/doom band that also resides from the Phoenix, Arizona area.  I saw them for the first time when they debuted at the Steel and Sword event at the Nile Theater.  I thought they were good then, but they have polished their style and are now very good.  During their set, they were joined by ex-Adavant growler, Nathan the Ravenous.

Tonight was a special night for Borne Of Ash.  They were performing their new album From The Dark They Came.  I really enjoyed their music and recommend their album to all that enjoy death metal music.  You can find the album at bandcamp (https://borneofash.bandcamp.com/album/from-the-dark-they-came ).
