One of my top 25 albums from the 70s is Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower.  Robin Trower is an English rock guitarist that was part of Procol Harum from 1967 to 1971.  In 1971 Robin left Procol Harum and created the Robin Trower Band, a power trio.  Over the years, Robin has also played with the great Jack Bruce and Bryan Ferry.

This is the second time I have seen Robin and for someone in their 80s, he can still rock with the best of them.  His mastery of the Fender Stratocaster is outstanding.  He no longer sings, but leaves that to his bass player, Richard Watts.  Chris Taggart on drums rounds out the trio.

Five of the songs Robin played tonight were from the Bridge of Sighs album.  One of the most recognizable rock song starting guitar licks is from “Day Of The Eagle”.  If you hear it you immediately know the song.  One of my personal favorites is “Bridge Of Sighs”.  It starts with a haunting opening and draws you into its melancholy melody and lyrics.  I really never understood the song until I visited Venice, Italy and I actually saw The Bridge of Sighs.  It was an actual the bridge the convicted prisoners crossed to go from the court to the prison.

The other songs from the album that Robin and the band performed were “Little Bit Of Sympathy”, “Lady Love” and “Too Rolling Stoned”.  Robin and the band got a number of standing ovations.  Just watching Robin’s fingers dancing over the strat’s neck was a sight to behold.  He truly is a master of the rock & blues guitar.

If you want to see one of the greatest 60s and 70s rock guitarist still touring, then seeing Robin Trower is a must.  His performance was spectacular.  If you love the songs on his album then seeing him live is even better.  I actually believe he is one of those artists that his live performance is better then the album cuts.  I can very highly recommend his concert and hope to see him again soon.

We are starting to lose too many of these great artists from the 60s and 70s.  So, if you want to see one of your favorite artists from that era, I would highly recommend doing it now.

Katy Guillen & The Drive Concert at Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, AZ on October 9th, 2025

Katy Guillen & The Drive started the concert.  The band consists of guitarist Katy Guillen and drummer Stephanie Williams.  Their style is like Robin’s, a rock with blues overtone.  They were very good and gave a very nice warmup for Robin.  Katy was very solid on guitar while Stephanie at times was like Animal on drums.  I hope to see them again.

Below are the social media site for both Robin Trower and Katy Guillen & The Drive.  You can see if they are coming to a venue near you by checking out their website.
