Tour: Live At Pompeii – Echoes & More

I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live multiple times.  But unfortunately, today you either have to see David Gilmour, Roger Waters or Dave Mason individually or see one of the many tribute bands.  In the last couple of years, I have seen almost all of the touring Pink Floyd tribute bands.  With most tribute bands, you don’t get well know musicians.  The Gilmour Project is different.  The band members are all very accomplished musicians that have played in or are still with some outstanding bands.  The current touring members are guitarist Jeff Pevar, bass player Berry Duane Oakley, guitarist Mark Karan, keyboardist Scott Guberman and drummer Prairie Prince.

This is the second time I have seen The Gilmour Project. With a lot of bands these days you are lucky if you get a 90-minute show.  But when you see The Gilmour Project, you get at least 2 sets of over 1 hour each.  Tonight, they did a 3-set performance.  However, they only took a break between the first 2 sets.  The 3rd set was done immediately following the 2nd set.

The first set was the songs from probably Pink Floyd’s greatest album, Dark Side Of The Moon.  They played the entire album.  They then ended the first set with Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall” with a mash-up of the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street”.

After a short 15-minute break, they came back to perform Wish You Were Here.  They then perform one of the first Pink Floyd songs I remember hearing, “Set The Controls for the Heart of The Sun”.  They ended the second set with a Pink Floyd song you rarely ever hear live, “Fat Old Sun”.

Without leaving the stage, they went directly into their 3rd set.  They started with the classic song “Echoes” followed by “Another One Of These Days”.  They ended the night with the “Comfortably Numb” from The Wall.

The show started at 7:45 and finished at 10:35, so with the 15-minute break, they played for over 2 and ½ hours.

The only glitch that occurred during the show was they had 2 times that they got a feedback sequel from the mics.  Otherwise, the performance was flawless and spectacular.

With all of the Pink Floyd tribute bands out there, I can still highly recommend seeing The Gilmour Project.  They aren’t flashy and don’t have a lot of stage lighting or movies like some of the other bands, but what you get is just some outstanding music done by truly great musicians.  If you love Pink Floyd music then you will totally enjoy this show.
