At a lot of concerts I go to, the men outnumber the women. Not tonight. I would say about 60% of the audience were women. They were all here to see one of TV’s and music’s heartthrobs, Rick Springfield. Rick started out as a musician as the guitarist for ZOOT. But in 1981, he got the staring roll of Dr. Noah Drake on TV’s soap opera General Hospital.

Most people don’t realize that Rick Springfield has been playing guitar since he was 13. He has been in a number of different band and played with a wide number of musicians. But everyone remembers his biggest and number 1 hit, “Jessie” Girl”.

Rick is now in his 70s and is still going strong. He even indicated that he will be coming out with a new album soon.

For the next 90 minutes we got to hear some great music by Rick and his band. They did a number of his own songs and mixed in some covers. One of the covers was his friend’s Sammy Hagar’s “I’ve Done Everything For You”. He also did the cover of ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man”. Of his own songs, he did “Human Touch”, “Affair of the Heart” and of course “Jessie’s Girl”. They even did one of his newest songs, “Venus In Overdrive”.

From the very start, everyone was standing. A lot of the women were dancing and even singing along with Rick. The one thing you can always expect at a Rick Springfield show is the “Rose Pedals” all over the stage. A lot of omen bring bunches of roses to the show. They put them on the stage. During the show, Rick will pick up a bundle of roses and “blast” them across his guitar. The rose pedals fly everywhere in the air and finally all over the stage. By the end of the show, the stage is covered by rose pedals.

This is my 4th Rick Springfield concert. I have enjoyed every one of them. My wife has been to a to a couple of the shows and loved them. This is definitely a great concert to take a date to. This a must-see concert. Rick’s energy is amazing and the band is tight. I can highly recommend see it.

The Black Moods Concert at Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, AZ on August 30th, 2026

To open the concert, we had one of Phoenix’s favorite local bands, The Black Moods. They are a 3-piece band with the dynamic lead guitarist, Josh Kennedy fronting the band. On drums is the amazing Chico Diaz. They are joined by bassist Brenden McBride.

I have seen The Black Moods a number of times. In the past Josh was wilder on stage and even did jumps. However, today he stays planted and uses his voice and guitar playing steal the show. If you get a chance to see them perform, you will love the show. They are a pure rock & roll band with some outstanding music. Personally, I try to see them whenever they are back from touring and perform around Phoenix. They will be back here in November. November 13^th at the 191 Toole in Tucson and November 14^th at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe. Hope to see you there.
