Danny Zelisko has been bringing Alan Parsons and his band to the valley since 1995. I got to meet Alan at Danny Zeliskos’s 50th Anniversary party and he was extremely nice. He posed with a number of people to have his photo take. He even joined the stage with Alice Cooper and Al Stewart.
In his early years Alan worked at Abby Studios in London. Alan is best known as the engineer for Pink Floyd’s ground breaking album, Dark Side Of The Moon. Alan has helped produce and engineer many other band’s albums. Currently he is re-issuing his classic albums into box sets that include Doby Atmos versions. One of his latest re-issues is his debut studio album from 1976, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. Tonight’s show was dedicated to that album.
Most musicians want to always be the main person on the stage and always have the spotlight on them. Alan is different. Yes, he sits on a raised platform at the back of the stage, but he lets his amazing band take the spotlight most of the time. Alan is joined by vocalist P.J. Olsson, drummer Danny Thompson, on bass Guy Erez, keyboardist Tom Brooks, Todd Cooper on Saxophone and vocals, Dan Tracey on guitar and vocals and Jeff Kollman on lead guitar and vocals. This band is a well-oiled machine.
Tonight’s show was a mixture of Alan’s hit songs and the entire Tales of Mystery and Imagination album. Of course, we got to hear “Time” and “Dammed If I Do”. I especially loved when they played “La Sagrada Familia”, Alan’s tribute to the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. I have actually been there and seen it and I understand Alan’s wonder at seeing it.
The show ended with 2 of Alan’s biggest hits, “Eye in the Sky” and “Games People Play”.
Unfortunately, Alan’s tour in the US ends tonight (September 13th) in Las Vegas. He has a few shows schedule for Mexico in October. He and the band will be part of the upcoming Rock Legends Cruise out of Miami, Florida on February 21st.
If you get to see Alan and his outstanding band, I VERY HIGHLY recommend it. The audience gave him many ovations during the show and at some point, were even singing along with their favorite songs. It was a great night of music.
Special Note. Danny Zelisko in association with St. Mary’s Food Bank, auction off a signed guitar (and sometimes concert poster) at the shows. All of the proceeds go directly to St. Mary’s Food Bank to help feed the people of greater Phoenix area. Tonight was very special; they were able to auction off 2 signed guitars by Alan with a signed concert posters for $6000 each. Danny also added a special gift of a pair of tickets to 3 of his upcoming shows. All of this money went directly to St. Mary’s Food Bank to help create food boxes. It is estimated that tonight alone, 60,000 meals would be generated. I want to thank Alan Parsons, Danny, Danny’s people, Celebrity Theatre and of course the 2 people that won the guitars. Thank you so much for helping out.
