Tour: Battle Ballads North American Tour 2024

I have seen a number of strange shows in my days, including GWAR (a few times), Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare Tour”, The Tubes’ “White Punks on Dope Tour” but I believe tonight topped them all.  I got to see 2 very good metal bands, a pirate band that played drinking songs, a metal band all dressed up as pink flamingos in too-toos, a “Crab Pot Mosh Pit” and a conga line in the mosh pit!  Given all of this the crowd was extremely mellow and no real incidences occurred.  Everyone seemed to have a great time and we all enjoyed the music.  Personally I loved the show.  It was different and very enjoyable.

Týr

Týr at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 18th, 2024

The headliner of the concert was Týr, a metal band from the Nordic country of Faroe Islands.  Their music centers around Nordic folklore.  They got their name from the Nordic god of War, Týr.  The band consists of founding members Heri Joensen on guitars and lead vocals and Gunnar H. Thomsen on bass and backing vocals.  Tadeusz Rieckmann is on drums and Hans Hammer is on guitars.

By the time Týr hit the stage we were all ready for a normal metal show and we got it.  From the very first song, “By The Sword In My Hand” to the last song, “Hold The Heathen Hammer High” the crowd was head banging.  In a true metal band, they had the dual guitars that played off each other.  This was the first time I have seen Týr and I got to say I was impressed.

You can check out more about Týr on either their website or social media pages.  Their music is also available on all of the streaming channels.

TrollfesT

TrollfesT at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 18th, 2024

TrollfesT was probably the most interesting band of the evening.  I knew that Norwegians can be a little strange, by I was very surprised when the band came on stage and they all were dressed like giant Pink Flamingos in Too-toos.  Every member of the band had Flamingo head hats except the drummer (probably wouldn’t have stayed on).

During one of the songs, they had ½ of the room sit down while the other half was jumping.  Then they had the crowd switch.  They did this multiple times during the song.  I had a hard time getting down and then up the first time, so I gave my poor old knees a break and joined the side standing each time there after (I was the dividing point in the crowd).

Not to be outdone by The Dread Crew of Oddwood having the crowd do a “Crab Pot” in the mosh pit, TrollfesT had the people in the mosh pit do a giant Conga line.  There must have been over 100 people in the conga line.  Again, this was another first for me to see at a metal show.

Once you got past the costumes, they were very good musicians and their music was very good.  I really liked their song, “All Drinks On Me”.

This is definitely a band I would recommend going to see.  They are both a fun band to watch and very good musicians.  You can see if they are coming to city near you on their website.  You can also checkout their social media sites.  Their music is also available on all streaming channels.

Æther Realm

Æther Realm at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 18th, 2024

Æther Realm was the only band that I have seen before.  Last time I saw them was in May of last year.  I am sorry I didn’t get a setlist.  But I do remember them playing “Swampwitch” and “The Magician”.  They are not a flashy band, but just play extremely good metal music.  The bassist, Vincent Jones is also the lead singer.  He is very dynamic playing both his bass and powering out the lyrics.  Tyler Gresham is the drummer.  Together they provide the bassline and heart pounding driving force for all of their music.  Add in the two very good guitarist, Donny Burbage and Heinrich Yoshio that extend the music with power riffs and rhythm.

Personally, I can’t wait to see them again.  Check out their website to see if they are coming to s city near you.  You can also check out their social media sites.  Their music is also streaming on all of the normal channels.

The Dread Crew of Oddwood

The Dread Crew Of Oddwood at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 18th, 2024

If Flogging Molly went pirate it would be The Dread Crew of Oddwood.  You would believe that the band was from Europe, but in reality, they are from Southern California.  Their music style is folk metal with sea and drinking overtones.

If I remember correctly, during the song “Giant Fucking Demon Crab” lead singer Wolfbeard O’Brady requested the crowd to do a “Crab Pot” mosh pit.  It was one of the strangest things I have seen.  I have seen Viking rowing mosh pits, slam pits, but this was the first time seeing grown men running around with their hands in the air making crab claw movements.

I really enjoyed both their performance and music.  You can check out more about The Dread Crew of Oddwood on either their website or social media pages.  Their music is also available on all of the streaming channels.
