Tour:  Rankarumpu North American Tour 2024

I will continue my normal rant.  PLEASE help the bands out and purchase merchandise from their merch tables.  They have everything from patches, vinyl albums, CDs and many different tee-shirts.  The sale of these items helps the bands continue to tour and make new music.  Also purchase a physical copy of their music on CD or vinyl.  They make more money from these sales then typically from the streaming services.  If you missed getting an item at the concert, check out their website where they have all of the merchandise from the tour and even more.  You can find the CD/normal album at most music stores, but if you want specialty packages, then you need to go the bands’ website or their record label site.

As I write this review, the tour has ended for these 3 bands together in the USA.  All 3 bands will be heading back to Europe for the summer festivals.  In September and October, Visions Of Atlantis and Illumishade will team up together again and tour in Europe.  You can check out the festivals and tour dates of all of the bands on their website and see if they are coming to a city near you.

Korpiklaani

Korpiklaani at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 29th, 2024

Korpiklaani is a Finnish folk metal band.  This is the second time I have seen Korpiklaani and I enjoyed both shows.  At times I did not understand they lyrics (being Finnish), but overall, they were great.  Their music does have a touch of Polka because of the violin and accordion, but has a strong metal overture.  The band consists of lead singer Jonne Järvelä, Olli Vänskä on Fiddle, Sami Perttula on Accordion, drummer Samuli Mikkonen, bassist Jarkko Aaltonen and guitarist Cane.

They started their set with “Kotomaa” and “Wooden Pints, both very upbeat songs.  The majority of the songs were from their newest album, Rankarumpu just released this April.  They ended their set with the crowd favorite “Beer Beer”.  People were singing along and dancing.  It was a great song to end a very enjoyable if not strange night.  If you like metal folk music, then Korpiklaani is definitely one of the best bands to see live.  They are very energetic and amusing to watch.  I enjoyed them very much.

Korpiklaani will be at a number of European festivals this summer.  To find out which festivals they will be attending and on which day check out their website and social media pages.

Visions of Atlantis

Visions Of Atlantis at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 29th, 2024

I have decided to only write up a small part of my Vision Of Atlantis (VOA) review here.  I will be posting a follow-on article with more details soon.  I felt it was unfair to the other bands to take up the majority of this review for only this band.  VOA consists of lead singers Clémentine Delauney and Michele Guaitoli, drummer Thomas Caser, guitarist Christian Douscha and bassist Herbert Glos.

Their performance started out as normal, where Thomas, Christian and Herbert came out playing “Master the Hurricane”.  Then Clémentine joined them with her part of the melody.  Finally, Michele joined in and completed the performance.  Then all hell broke loose.  First the bass went out, then the guitar was lost.  Finally, the singers’ mics cut out.  For the next 10 minutes they scrambled trying different things to get thing working.  In short, they had to abandon the normal set and had to go to an acoustic set.  So, for the next 30+ minutes we got an acoustic version of their performance similar to what I use to see on MTV’s “Unplugged”.  It was an amazing recovery from a very tenuous situation.  I applaud VOA because I have seen other bands just walk off and leave the fans hanging.

Unfortunately, VOA will be releasing their new album, Pirates II: Armada on July 5th after their USA tour ends.  Check out their website for the different packages available of this album release.

Illumishade

Illumishade at The Nile Theater, Mesa, AZ on April 29th, 2024

Illumishade is a rock/metal band from Switzerland that songs are prog metal based with majestic melodies.  The band is fronted by lead singer, Fabienne Erni and Mirjam Skal providing background vocals.  At this show, Mirjam Skal also played keyboards.  Rounding out the band is guitarist Jonas Wolf, bassist Yannick Urbanczik and drummer Marc Friedrich.

This is the first time I have seen Illumishade.  First off, I was extremely impressed by them.  Their music was very good and as musicians they were very good.  I was especially impressed by the 2 singers voices and how well them projected and blended together.  They are not a growling band, but more melodic.

You can check out Illumishade’s music on any of the streaming platforms, their YouTube channel and at Napalm Records.
